Telford Growth Point

05.02.2016

McPhillips has been awarded the first of Telford’s Growth Point Packages for improvements to Limekiln Roundabout.  This important gateway to the Borough connects the A5 with the A4640 providing access to Telford Town Centre and the motorway network via M54 Junction 4 and currently suffers from traffic congestion during peak times.

The improvements to Limekiln Roundabout include widening of the roundabout and improved entry/exit lanes to provide additional capacity along with the implementation of a signal controlled crossing for pedestrians across Telford Way, replacement of street lighting, traffic signs and bollards. The project is expected to provide sufficient capacity to cater for future growth up to 2031.

Limekiln Roundabout is the first in a series of Growth Point Packages designed to provide improvements to Telford's road network, increasing capacity and reducing congestion along with providing utility infrastructure improvements at new housing and employment sites with the intention of supporting the creation of jobs and bringing forward new houses across the Borough.  The overall investment is expected to help deliver approximately 5,400 jobs and 2,800 houses. The investment programme provides significant economic benefits with a cost/ benefit ratio of 6.5, so for every £1 invested the return to the economy is predicted to be £6.50.
