Client: Highways Agency

Value: £718,000

Programme: 16 weeks

Completion Date: July 2012

This project was for the signalisation of the island at the M54 junction 6 in Telford and widening of the exit slip roads. The original design called for night time working and full carriageway closures however we were able to undertake the works using single lane closures and therefore were able to work during the daytime and as a result provided the Highways Agency with a £110,000 saving on this element (apportioned 100% to the client). The exit slips were widened from two to three lanes and traffic signals were installed at the top of the slip roads and on the island. 2000m2 of existing carriageway were planed out and kerbs were realigned to widen the carriageway before resurfacing took place. 300m of traffic safety barrier was installed and 400m of new footpath was created around the island.   1000m2 of antiskid was provided on the signal approaches along with new road markings street lighting and fencing. Two bridge joints were also renewed as part of the works. Traffic management was subcontracted without incident and the project was completed to the complete satisfaction of the client.
