Oakengates Town Centre Improvements

Client: Telford & Wrekin Council

Value: £1,100,000

Programme: 33 weeks

Completion Date: September 2012

McPhillips undertook these high street and public realm improvements in the busy Oakengates Town Centre for Telford & Wrekin Council as Principal Contractor on an NEC Option B contract. This 33 week project involved the removal of the existing precast concrete paving, diversion of utilities, realignment of kerbs and the existing highway, resurfacing and installation of street furniture. The Site Agent held an open day prior to work commencing and visited all the local businesses affected by work in Market Street and Station Road. McPhillips’ paving gangs worked in isolated 50m areas to reduce disruption.

The work activities involved laying 600m of duct for telecoms, 1550m of Marshall Conservation kerbs and 1400m2 of dense bitumen macadam in the re-aligned highway. Footway and public realm consisted of 2500m2 of Charcon Malvern and 1500m2 of Charcon Andover textured paving with a small area of natural cobble stone paving and the installation of 125nr cast iron bollards.
