McPhillips’ MD Paul appointed chair of Shropshire SCE

McPhillips managing director Paul Inions has been appointed chair of a key Shropshire business network.

Paul has taken over in the hotseat at Shropshire Constructing Excellence (SCE), the county branch of Constructing Excellence Midlands.

Paul said he was delighted with the appointment, which comes at a crucial time for the construction industry across the region.

“SCE plays a hugely important role in bringing together all companies involved in the construction sector to share best practice and promote modern, sustainable methods of construction.

“Our industry is facing some significant challenges and it is only by working together and sharing our knowledge that we can hope to overcome them.

“I have been a champion of collaboration throughout my career, and I think it is now more important than ever.

“If we are to develop the skills our industry needs, attract young people into the profession, recruit from a more diverse population, give women the opportunities they deserve and make sure the industry meets its climate responsibilities, we will have to work together.

“SCE does a fantastic job at bringing members together from across the supply chain and I look forward to working closely with each and every one of them.”

Paul, who succeeds former Shropshire Council executive director of place Mark Barrow as chair, began his career at Telford-based McPhillips in 1990, before taking 18 months away from the company and returning in 1998. His roles have ranged from trainee quantity surveyor to commercial director.

In addition to Paul taking up the reins as chair, McPhillips, which employs more than 240 people at its Hortonwood headquarters, is also sponsoring the innovation category in the West Midlands round of the 2025 Constructing Excellence Awards.

McPhillips has delivered more than 140 projects as principal contractor with a value of £300million in the last five years.  In 2024, the company celebrated its 60th birthday.
