STEEL PROCESSING MIDLANDS, BURNTWOOD

This project was for the construction of an extension to an existing factory unit on Burntwood Business Park occupied by a steel processing business, taking care not to disturb their operation.

An old brick store required demolition and site clearance was required prior to construction of the extension.

Existing asbestos cement cladding was removed from the existing unit and replaced with new insulated cladding.

The existing roof and elevations of the unit were prepared to receive the extension.

We then set about the new 1315m2 steel framed and cladded building. Groundworks were a piled ring beam with a secant wall of 750mm in-situ reinforced concrete piles.

230m of new drainage up to 300mm diameter and 8nr manholes were constructed.

A new 900mm high brick and block wall was constructed around the perimeter and a 200mm thick concrete floor was poured with mesh reinforcement. A series of in-situ concrete machine bases including a 10m deep machine pit were constructed using over 300m3 of concrete.

A steel frame was erected and insulated cladding panels fixed. Three roller shutter doors were installed in the extension.

Finally remedial works were carried out the existing concrete car park and a new 2000m2 tarmaced service yard and 250m2 of concrete access road and footways were constructed.
